Our final day at San Francisco saw our return to the Fisherman’s Wharf. We wanted to stroll down the entire street, enjoy the shops, take better shots and do it under the warm sunlight this time instead of light showers of rain.
We took the tram down again. Sneaked a couple of shots for memories.
Manual controls on the tram
Arrived at the wharf where it was nice and sunny. Great day for a ride on the red tourist bus.
We chose to not go on a tour of Alcatraz and instead opted to just take shots of the island from afar. Don’t know about the rest of you, but I wasn’t keen on visiting a jail. Also we were running short on time and if we did Alcatraz we would miss everything else.
Alcatraz from afar Closer shot of Alcatraz
The heights my husband would go to get good shots for me :)
We walked on a different pier today and took more shots of the sea lions. There is something about the sounds the sea lions make that puts a smile on my face. I like the ‘Oo-uk, Oo-uk!’ very much.
Spot the baby sea lion
The seagulls here are really fat
From the street you can see the bakers hard at work. Ready made breads are transported via a metal basket from the production area to the cafe. Nice... They also make bread in very unique shapes. You can buy koala ones!
Today was the first we had seen of the sun in all of the 3 days were in San Francisco so we took shots aplenty.
As we strolled along the street, the smell of freshly baked bread wafted through the air and it was sooo good a smell we had to stop and let ourselves be tempted :) Boudin is a sourdough bread factory that produces awesome sourdough bread on that street. For sure those smells were directed onto the street to snare tourists into taking a pit stop in their cafe. Their signature offering is the clam chowder in sourdough bread. We took the bait! Yum...

After that we walked all the way out on a jetty to get a good look at the Golden Gate Bridge. We couldn’t make the drive out to the bridge so we enjoyed it from afar.

Spotted mother and daughter running along the waters edge
We then walked to Ghirardelli Square, bought chocolates and enjoyed ice cream with Ghirardelli chocolate. These chocolates are yum and I remember them from my Intel days when our counterparts would bring them as gifts when they came to Malaysia for business meetings.
Ghirardelli Square!
That accident put a stop to our travel on the tram as well. Everyone had to get off and make the rest of the way on foot. It took officials 40 minutes to clear both cars and have the tram system working again.
The chocolate shop
The crash nearly lifted the tram off the rail and sent several people jumping off the sides of the tram for fear of having their feet crushed. It was quite scary. We saw the whole thing and it was like a slow-mo kind of thing watching the tram approach from the opposite direction, thinking it would stop on time and exclaiming aloud when it didn’t.
After the chocolate decadence, we decided to call it a day and took the tram back to the hotel. We missed the first tram and took the subsequent one. The first tram was roughly 100m ahead of us. We were happily moving along until right in front of our very eyes when we saw another tram coming from a different intersection, crash into the one in front of us with a loud bang.

We got back and rested the rest of the night. Thus ended Day 3 in San Francisco.
