On the 8th Day of Christmas...

I bought Alex his belated Christmas gift!

I couldn't make up my mind to make the purchase before Christmas and two days before the 25th, made a conscious decision to make the most of the post Christmas sale and do it then. We have been shopping around the past few days and I can now say, I no longer owe him his Christmas gift. I have bought it!

Alex is real excited with his gift and honestly, so am I. I'm looking forward to taking many trips out of Canberra with this gadget leading the way ( What better excuse to get out of this quiet & rather boring town?) And from now on, I can drive to places on my own without being worried that I might lose my way. Yes, I haven't been driving around much. Hey, I have a valid excuse. I'm still new to Canberra!

Firstly I love the welcoming sounds the TomTom produces when we turn it on. It sounds like a succession of 6 muted thumps on mini indian tom toms. Secondly, believe it or not, the TomTom has an option of having the directions spoken aloud in the Malay language! Didn't think the Malay language was significant enough to be added in as an option. Now if I miss home, I can hear a bit of Malaysia through our TomTom! :)

We eagerly tried out the gadget on our trip back from the shops to our home. It worked very much to our expectation! I did my research prior to the purchase and I know that the TomTom is the best in the market right now. I decided to go with the regular screen size versus the TomTom XL - which has a wider screen- not only because the regular one is cheaper but also because:-

1. I figured we were pretty dextrous and wouldn't have trouble with being clumsy on the touch screen buttons. I mean come on, if we have no problems using the buttons on the ever shrinking mobile phone to send smses, the 3.5 inch screen on the TomTom should have nothing on us.

2. We still have pretty good eyesight and 3.5 inch is definitely wide enough.

We will be on the road tomorrow to have another play with it. Going on drives to the outskirts of Canberra should happen more frequently henceforth. I may have a little hole in my pocket as a result but I guess knowing that Alex is very happy with his gift makes it all worthwhile :)
